Swara Bhaskar born 9 April 1988 is an Indian film actress. She is a trained dancer in the classical Indian dance form- Bharatanatyam and is a student of Guru Leela Samson. Has performed with her troupe Spanda. Swara as she attended the second Silk Road International Film Festival in Fuzhou, China.


She did her schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and subsequently studied English literature at Delhi University's Miranda House where she was classmate with another actress Minisha Lamba. She did her masters in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Family Background

Swara was born in Delhi to a Telugu Naval officer Chitrapu Uday Bhaskar and his Bihari. wife Ira Bhaskar who is a professor of cinema studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Her maternal grandmother was from Varanasi

Acting Career

Swara has been involved in theatre and was associated with IPTA (Indian Peoples Theatre Association)- the Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi chapter. She also trained with N.K Sharma and his troupe ACT ONE, in Delhi. She started acting in films she was associated with N. K. Sharma's 'Act One' theater group in Delhi and she shifted to Mumbai in 2008.

She started her film career with a 2009 film Madholal Keep Walking. She was finally noticed by audience as well as critics in the film 'Tanu Weds Manu' in which she played the role of Payal, lead actress Kangana Ranaut's best friend. In 2013, she appeared in 'Raanjhanaa' along with Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, and received praise for her role as Bindiya.

Bhaskar has been selected to act in Suraj Barjatya's movie 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'. She is seen in the role of Salman khan sister. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, brings Sonam Kapoor and Salman khan together on screen after Saawariya (2007). Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepak Dobriyal are also the part of the film.

She won several nominations and also the Best Supporting Actress award conferred by the Zee Cine Awards of 'Tanu Weds Manu' in 2011
