Bang Bang

Released date: 02 Oct 2014

Language: Hindi

RunningTime: 156 Minutes

Plot Summary: "Finally it is time for Bang Bang! Directed by Siddharth Anand, this glamorous version of Knight and Day isn’t bang-on target. The death-defying stunts, Hrithik’s chiseled body, picturesque locations, colorful song sequences – do nothing for the film. There is no saving grace for Bang Bang! It was just another empty shell sans the powerful bullet. It looks like Bollywood has fired another blank! Bang Bang! is a romantic saga infused with high-octane action and drama. Harleen Shani (Katrina Kaif) is a simple bank receptionist leading a boring life in the serene town of Shimla. Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan) is a charming man surrounded by mystery. He lives each day as if it is his so-called ‘ek din‘. And as destiny (or say script) would have it, their lives intertwined. Not for romance but for chaos and trouble.

Will they be able to bond with each other out of love? Or will destiny add more twists in their life? Who is this Rajveer? Will Harleen be able to learn his true identity? Watch Bang Bang! open this week amidst crazy car chases, gunfire and death-defying stunts. Siddharth Anand with a portfolio of not-so-brilliant-films will always be remembered for Bang Bang! Going by the enormous buzz created, Bang Bang! isn’t the perfect Bollywood flick. Though it looks like a glamorous remake of Knight and Day, the film has suffered from some major flaws. From a weak screenplay to serious continuity issues, you are left clueless throughout the 156 minutes of runtime. From a receptionist-turned-assassin to F1 racing cars on the roads of Dubai. Every possible logic has been trashed.

Also the dialogues date to the Stone Age. To elucidate on the above mentioned fact, there is a scene where Danny kidnaps Katrina and interrogates her about the Kohinoor diamond. He says to Katrina, ""Sirf sach bol na… Sach ke siva kuch nahi bolna…"" Dialogues like such transport you into the cinema world from the 80s and 90s. Similarly, there are several other scenes like this throughout in Bang Bang! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself doing a ‘facepalm’ about what’s going on on the big screen. Though these bullet scars are evident, Siddharth has tried to conceal them with his bold step in Bollywood. He tried re-creating a Hollywood film with adequate B-Town frills and fancies. Good or bad? Wait for the boxoffice collection to be declared. Speaking of the performances, Bang Bang! belonged to Hrithik Roshan. From death-defying action sequences to phenomenal dance moves, he will keep you glued to the 70-mm screen. Everything about his personality was simply brilliant.

But when he was not dancing or involved in action, you will see him go on an advertising spree. From Mountain Dew – ‘darr ke aage jeet hai‘ to Pizza Hut to even Macroman. You can’t ask for more. On the other hand, Katrina Kaif comes across as yet another Canadian-bred character. And she pretty much sleepwalks through her role. The rest of the supporting cast, which includes Danny Denzongpa, Javed Jaffrey, Jimmy Shergill, had limited screen presence with nothing much to contribute. On a technical note, the action sequences were unparalleled when compared to any other action-oriented Bollywood flicks. ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’ famed action choreographer Andy Armstrong ensures you have something good to rave about in Bang Bang! Vishal-Shekhar‘s groovy music tracks are chartbusting hits.

The songs were aptly visualized and placed throughout the movie. The ‘Tu Meri’ song will come across like an EDM concert with pyrotechnics and laser effects used in the visualization. Our other recommendation would be ‘Meherbaan’. In short, Bang Bang! is a hell of a rollercoaster ride, which you will never want to get on. Why should you watch this film? If no logic and only fun infused with dhamakedaar action is your motto, then Bang Bang! is the perfect movie choice. And all you die-hard Hrithik fans, head to the nearest theatre and ogle at his finely chiseled body. Also, if Bollywood’s Barbie – Katrina is your favorite actress, do watch this film to enjoy her cute, innocent character. But remember to overlook the acting element. Else you might leave the cinema hall feeling disappointed. Go Bang Bang! this weekend."
